Rick is a Seattle native who grew up competing in freestyle skiing, track & field, baseball, and eventually college football. He began his coaching career at the age of 18 when he was hired as a speed and agility coach, working with high school and college field sport athletes.
Rick attended Western Washington University, studying political science and philosophy. He then attended law school at Willamette University where he focused his learning on how to use systemic levers to advocate for social and environmental justice. Afterwards, he spent some time practicing law and consulting, while continuing to coach individuals in various modalities.
Along the way, Rick experienced a wide variety of injuries. Notably, multiple concussions, spinal fractures, and later completely blowing out his knee, leaving him assuming he was done with high performance athletic endeavors. Luckily, he was able to seek treatment and with each rehab cycle, he learned more and more about the human body as well as the evolution of treatment, training, and how we perceive pain. Today, Rick has returned to being an avid backcountry skier, hiker, urban cyclist, and participates in trail runs ranging from 5k to 100-miles in distance.
Through these experiences, he saw how his studies of the human condition and systemic injustice intersect with, and complement, the skills required in coaching and training. Upon that realization, he made it his sole career focus to prioritize helping others make positive changes in their lives.
His training approach is always tailored to his clients’ goals while factoring in their lifestyles, and emphasizing their health above all else. Rick adapts to his clients moment-by-moment so they get the most out of every session, consistently and without pain. And, his clients see long term, sustainable results.
